The Hollow Oath

A party-based isometric CRPG built on the D&D 2024 rules, with turn-based tactical combat, an investigation story set in the fen town of Greyfen, and multiple endings.

About this project

As my interest in DnD grew, I wanted to see how Claude Code would fare at creating a game similar to Baldur's Gate. This was also an experiment in how AI would implement a very well-established but complicated web of interacting game rules in a single prototype. I iteratively played the game and provided feedback. It did an okay job, but there were certainly some rough edges. It did its best on the visual style, and there were many, many bugs to sort through. In its current state, it is playable, but it has the same problem I have encountered in other game-type prototypes: while it technically hits all the requirements, it does not "feel" like a fun game. I am curious to see how these models get better at this type of task over time.
