Hubble Systems Cutaway

An interactive 3D exhibit of the Hubble Space Telescope built around NASA's official model, with subsystem hotspots, cutaway and overlay views, and a guided tour.

About this project

This experiment was performed to see how well Claude Code could use existing 3D models from the internet. It did not perform quite to the level I was hoping for, as it was not able to find representative models for the components inside the Hubble telescope, but it made a reasonable attempt, and it is understandable why it was not able to meet my expectations for this experiment. It seems that something complicated with very strict requirements would currently rely on those types of models being provided up front, before coding with an AI tool begins.

The guided tour's optics stop, which overlays the light path from aperture to focal plane.
Guided tour stop 8, Power from Sunlight: orange solar-wing volumes and battery bay markers highlighted on the model, with the Earth limb at lower right and the tour card below. (view full size)
